The macOS app

The macOS app brings the full BETA workspace to Apple-silicon Macs, adding a persistent menu bar icon, native keyboard shortcuts, system notifications, and direct management of AI tool subprocesses for Matrix tasks. It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Install and update the app

The macOS app is available as a disk image (DMG) for Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It is not available for Intel Macs.

Installing from the disk image

When you open OneMind BETA.app directly from the disk image without first copying it to /Applications, the app detects that it is running from a DMG or an App Translocation path and shows an install sheet automatically.

  1. Open the DMG and double-click OneMind BETA.app.
  2. The Welcome to onemind install sheet appears. Click Install onemind to copy the app to your Applications folder.
  3. A progress bar shows the installation percentage. When installation finishes, the app opens from /Applications.
  4. If installation fails, a message explains the problem. Click Try Again to retry.
  5. Click Not Now to run the app from its current location without installing.

If macOS runs the app from a temporary read-only location (App Translocation), the app detects it and offers the same install sheet, so you do not need to move the file yourself first.

Checking for and installing updates

The app checks for updates and applies them without any external installer. Open the update window from the menu bar icon (Check for Updates…) or from the onemind application menu (Check for Updates…).

When an update is available, click Download and Update. The app downloads and verifies the update, then restarts automatically. After the restart, the same session is already active — no sign-in is required again. Click Not Now to dismiss the window and update later.

If the download or installation fails, click Try Again. Click Close to dismiss without retrying.

Staying signed in across updates

When the app restarts to apply an update, your session is transferred automatically to the new version. The new binary validates the update before accepting the session, so if the update file is not what the app expects, it asks you to sign in again.

The app keeps a persistent icon in the macOS menu bar (the notification area at the top right of the screen) while it is running.

Menu bar icon

Click the onemind icon in the menu bar to open a short menu:

When the main window is open, the app provides a full macOS application menu bar.

Press these shortcuts from anywhere in the app to jump to the corresponding section:

Find in Page

Press ⌘F or choose Edit > Find in Page… to open a find bar at the top of the main window. Type a search term and matching text is highlighted immediately. Use Next (or Return) to advance to the next match and Previous to go back. Search is case-insensitive and wraps from the last match to the first. Press Escape or click Done to dismiss the find bar.

Full screen

Press ⌃⌘F or choose View > Enter Full Screen to enter full-screen mode. Press ⌃⌘F again or choose View > Exit Full Screen to leave it. Pressing Escape while in full-screen mode does nothing; use the shortcut or the View menu to exit.

Closing the window and quitting

Closing the main window (⌘W) hides the window but keeps the app running. The menu bar icon remains and you can reopen the window at any time. You can also click the onemind BETA icon in the Dock to reopen the window.

To quit, choose Quit onemind BETA from the menu bar icon menu or from the onemind BETA application menu (⌘Q). A confirmation dialog always appears before the app exits. Click Quit to confirm or Cancel to stay. The Quit item is not available while the in-app installer is actively copying files; it becomes available again once the installation finishes.

System notifications

The app delivers two kinds of macOS system notifications.

Software update notifications

When a new version is available, the app requests macOS notification permission automatically (if not already granted) and posts a banner notification: "onemind BETA [version] is ready. Open to review and install the update." The banner also appears in Notification Center. Clicking it opens the in-app update window. This notification fires at most once per version.

Inbox notifications

When new items arrive in your Notifications inbox, the app adds a notification to Notification Center. Inbox notifications appear in the list only — not as a banner while you are using another app. Clicking one brings the app to the front and opens the Notifications page.

Inbox notifications require notification permission to be granted for onemind BETA. Permission is requested when you turn on the System notifications switch in Settings > Notifications (it is off by default). You can also adjust permission at any time in System Settings > Notifications > onemind BETA.

AI tools on your Mac

The macOS app detects and connects to AI tools installed on the same Mac, and can launch certain tools automatically to run Matrix tasks.

Connecting AI tools

The macOS app looks for these tools on its own: shortly after you sign in, every ten minutes, when you bring the app to the front, and when an AI tool starts. When it finds one that isn't connected yet, a notice appears on whatever page you are on; choose Connect there, or choose Add AI agent on the Team page and then Connect next to the tool (see Team and AI tools). The app can detect and connect these tools:

Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Pi, OpenCode, Grok Build, DeepSeek Harness, CodeBuddy / legacy WorkBuddy, Qoder, and TRAE.

A tool must be installed and connected before onemind can sync Minds to it or run Matrix tasks with it. Its status updates automatically as the tool is launched or quit on the same Mac.

Launchable tools for Matrix tasks

For six of the registered tools, the app can spawn the tool as a managed subprocess when a Matrix task is assigned to it. You do not need to start these tools manually before accepting a task.

ToolRequirement
CodexTool installed at a recognized path and connected
Claude Codeclaude binary at ~/.local/bin/claude, /opt/homebrew/bin/claude, or /usr/local/bin/claude; connected
Grok BuildTool installed and connected
OpenCodeTool installed and connected
Hermes AgentTool installed and connected
PiTool installed and connected

Follow-up messages in a task continue the same tool session. When a running tool asks for permission or asks a question, the request appears in Matrix, and the device owner can also answer it in a dialog in the macOS app. See Task interactions from the sidebar.

Pull requests. When a run opens a GitHub pull request, its card on the task shows whether the pull request is open, merged or closed, how its checks are doing and the review decision. The Mac that ran the task reads them with your own GitHub CLI (gh), once a minute while the task is open; onemind holds no GitHub token. Without gh, or signed out of it, the card says so.

Trust levels. Each task has a Trust section under its details. The task's creator chooses how far runs on their own tools may go without asking: Ask (the default: the tool asks before it changes files or runs commands), Edit in worktree (the tool changes files in the task's worktree without asking, and still asks before reaching outside it; without a worktree it asks), or Full (the tool changes files and runs commands without asking). Use my MCP servers lets Claude Code load the MCP servers you set up for it. A teammate's tool always asks its owner, whatever the level. Pi, Antigravity and Trae Agent apply their own permission settings.

The remaining tools — Cursor, Antigravity, OpenClaw, DeepSeek Harness, CodeBuddy / legacy WorkBuddy, Qoder, and TRAE — can be connected for Mind sync, but the app cannot run Matrix tasks with them, so they are not offered when you assign a task.

Show in Finder

In Team, open a connected AI tool's profile panel and use the Finder button next to one of its files (Show … in Finder) to open Finder with that file selected. Only files inside your home directory are supported; symbolic links and files owned by another user are not shown.
