Backup and recovery
onemind Backup lets you inspect a cloud copy of your managed files before choosing to restore them on your Mac. Open Backup from the side drawer to see your backup history and recover any past snapshot.
Local and cloud backups
The Backup page has two filter tabs:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Local | Backups stored on the current device |
| Cloud | Backups uploaded to cloud storage |
Each backup entry shows its cloud upload status:
| Cloud status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Uploaded | The backup is safely stored in the cloud. |
| Upload pending | The upload is queued and has not completed yet. |
| Cloud upload failed | The upload failed. Choose Retry cloud upload to try again without creating a new backup. |
The Local tab shows only backups for your current device and Project binding.
Inspect a backup
Select any backup entry to inspect it before deciding whether to recover. Each entry shows:
- The owning Project, AI tool, device, and file manifest
- A Changelog section listing which files were Edited, Added, or Removed in that sync
- An Original files section showing the pre-change content of each backed-up file
Inspecting a backup in the browser does not grant permission to overwrite local files. Use the original file view to read content before choosing whether to restore.
Recover a backup
Any backup entry can be recovered to restore that snapshot's files to the Project folder on your Mac. Recovery requires the Project folder to be available on the device where you initiate it.
Plain recovery
- Open Backup and select the entry to restore.
- Review the Changelog and Original files sections.
- Choose Recover. A confirmation dialog appears.
- Choose Recover to confirm, or Keep current files to cancel.
If the Project folder is not bound on the current device, the backup shows: "Recover this backup on a device that has the project folder." Use the macOS app on the device that has the binding.
Restore before onemind
For entries that predate onemind's management of the folder, a Restore before onemind button is available. This recovery restores the Project folder to its state before onemind first managed it.
- Choose Restore before onemind. A preview panel shows the file paths that will be affected.
- Review the listed paths.
- Choose Restore before onemind to confirm, or Keep current files to cancel.
Recovery preserves unrelated files, other tools' managed sections, and backup history. If the binding or files have changed since the backup, refresh the recovery plan before confirming rather than forcing the old one.
Restoring local files is different from changing the approved Mind in Matrix. An older approved Mind version returns through a new checked review proposal; history is not rewritten in place. For CLI instruction backups and exact restore commands, see Troubleshooting and CLI service and files.
Storage in Settings
Open Settings > Storage to manage local data and recover folder links.
Cached views shows the current cache size. Choose Clear to remove only the view cache. Clearing cached views keeps your sign-in, Project folders, drafts, and backups.
Saved drafts lists Mind drafts stored on this device. Drafts stay on this device and do not expire automatically. Submit a draft from the Mind editor when you are ready; drafts cannot be removed from this panel. Drafts are not synced to other devices.
Backups provides a link to open the Backup page directly.
Folders lists each bound Project folder. On macOS, each folder entry shows a Reconnect button to re-establish a lost folder link, and a Choose folder button to select a replacement path.
If you chose a different folder for the same Project on this Mac, the earlier folder says Replaced by and names the folder in use. Use this folder instead switches back, and the other folder then stops being used. OneMind shows sessions only from the Project's folder and its worktrees. When your AI tools work in another copy of the same repository, Matrix on that Mac says how many recent sessions it isn't showing and links here.
If your Project folder becomes disconnected after a macOS app update, use Settings > Storage to reconnect it. Storage provides folder recovery and cache clearing that preserves credentials, drafts, bindings, backups, and Project files.
